Integrating Technology Action Plan

Professional Development Action Plan

Goal: Friendship will form a Technology PLC that will analyze data and present it to the staff. They will also be a support system for teachers that need help in implementing technology.

Administrator	1. Administrators will go into classrooms and look into teachers’ lesson plans looking for teachers that implement technology on a regular basis. The administrator could also send out a survey to teachers to find out about how they implement technology. 2. Administrator will ask a few teachers to be on the Technology PLC (will consist of 3-4 teachers and administrator).	1. Laptop with internet access 2. Survey over implementing technology.	They will observe teachers and form a technology PLC.
Technology PLC	1. The technology PLC will study the Improvement plans, the Long-term Plan for Technology, and Campus & Texas STaR Chart Results. 2. As a PLC, they will design a presentation of the results studied from above resources to present to the staff. The PLC will come into classrooms, if needed, to demonstrating how to implement certain technologies.	1. Presentation materials 2. Materials for implementing technology	Help in presenting each semester, hold teachers accountable for using technology in their classrooms, and be knowledgeable on the technology applications being used or expected for the teachers to use.

Evaluation Planning

It is very important to have an evaluation piece after each professional development session. It helps keep teachers accountable for the information and lets them know that there will be a follow-up to it. The evaluation that will go into effect for the implementing technology and professional development action plans will be the following:

1. Administrators will let teachers know that they will be checking lesson plans and will be looking for technology implemented across all subjects.
2. Administrators need to check lesson plans on a regular basis and conference with teachers that are not implementing technology.
3. Administrators will be conducting walk-throughs and looking for technology in classrooms. They may also give ideas or feedback on the technology being used.
4. Administrators and staff can use the STaR Chart results, the Long-Term Plan for Technology, the Campus Improvement Plan, and the District Improvement Plan to help understand what we need to improve on as a school or district.
5. The Technology PLC needs to send out regular surveys asking what teachers need in upcoming professional development sessions; help in the classrooms like having someone model a lesson, and resources they need.
6. The Technology PLC can set up a blog that they can post ideas, thoughts, concerns, or answers for the other staff to have access to and to comment on. It can be an instant communication tool for teachers.

Web Conference (3/12/11) 11:30am

I participated in the web conference today. This was my first time to participate in a web conference. It was a very positive experience I believe. It helped me understand it more and the reason for it. Before the conference I didn't really see the point of using it with my students in 2nd grade. I couldn't really think of how I would use it in my classroom. In the web conference, I got some great ideas and reasons why it should be used in the classroom. One way was for students to see and talk to other students in other parts of the country and the world. It gives them an opportunity to see what it is like in other places. I also got a lot of information about ILD and LCE. I keep getting emails about it, but I just keep pushing it off to the side because I didn't really understand what it was and when I should really work on it. It was very beneficial to have time to talk to other students in the class that are a little further along in this program and get advice. It was great. I am planning on using "Google" a lot more for things. I didn't realize how helpful it really is. I am planning on googling "open source software" to find more free software to use with my students. The web conference was also very helpful in coursework information. For Week 4, we have to develop an Action Plan. We got the information to use "Google" and look for Action plan examples. It was stated that the assignment isn't directed specifically, but is giving us the opportunity to develop a plan that benefits us. The web conference today was very beneficial and a very positive experience.

Week 2 Post #3 (Draft Plan)

The National Educational Technology Plan 2010 has a model that has goals and recommendations in 5 areas. The 5 areas are learning, assessment, teaching, infrastructure, and productivity. The goal in the area of learning is “all learners will have engaging and empowering learning experiences both in and outside of school that prepare them to be active, creative, knowledgeable, and ethical participants in our globally networked society.” (National Educational Technology Plan, 2010, p. 11) The draft recommends many things to help reach this goal. They recommend revising standards to reflect today’s technology, develop resources, and use advances in technology to help science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or STEM (National Educational Technology Plan, 2010, p. 11). The goal in the area of teaching is “professional educators will be supported individually and in teams by technology that connects them to data, content, resources, expertise, and learning experiences that enable and inspire more effective teaching for all learners.” (National Educational Technology Plan, 2010, p. 12) They recommend to create and develop resources and curriculum that creates collaboration between educators, provide continuous professional development to help teachers stay up to date in technology, move professional development into more job-embedded, use technology to have access to more resources, and develop teachers in online instruction (National Educational Technology Plan, 2010, p. 12). Professional development and training are a very important part of teaching and learning. Teachers need to be able to teach technology up to date and what students are using in the real world. From reading this draft, I do not see any concerns or issues at this time.

Week 2 Post #2 (Progress on the Plan)

According to the progress report on the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology, as a state, we have made progress towards our end goal. The first area of the plan is Teaching and Learning. According to the progress report, teachers are implementing technology more into their curriculum and are providing students with more advanced technologies. “Through planning and the implementation of those plans by district, Education Service Centers, and the TEA, districts have increased access to important 21^st Century resources such as online learning, digital content, and online professional development.” (The Texas Education Agency, p. 9) According to the 2009-2010 STaR Chart Summary, Texas went from 30.5% Advanced Tech in 2008 to 37.8% Advanced Tech in 2009-2010. We are making progress towards our goal in this area. The second area is Educator Preparation and Development. According to the progress report, districts are making it a priority to help teachers prepare and implement technology into their teaching (The Texas Education Agency, 2010, p. 75). According to the Texas STaR Chart Summary, Texas went from 23.8% Advanced Tech in 2008 to 26.8% Advanced Tech in 2009-2010. We are seeing a little progress toward our goal in this area. The third area is Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support. “The process of using technological resources in schools is complex and requires school-wide innovation such as vision-building, administrator commitment, and skilled leadership to play pivotal roles in success.” (The Texas Education Agency, 2010, p. 91) According to the 2009-2010 STaR Chart Summary, Texas went from 50.2% Advanced Tech in 2008 to 55.0% Advanced Tech in 2009-2010. We are slowly making progress towards our goal in this area. The fourth and last area is Infrastructure. This is the most critical element of the plan because it allows teachers and students to use the skills they have in technology (The Texas Education Agency, 2010, p. 101). According to the 2009-2010 STaR Chart Summary, Texas went from 60.2% Advanced Tech in 2008 to 61.0% Advanced Tech in 2009-2010. We didn’t make much progress in this area, but we are higher in this area than the others. According to this progress report, we are making progress in all the areas. Some may be slower than the others, but the important thing is that we are progressing.

Week 2 Post #1 (Texas Long-Range Plan)

The Texas Long-Range Plan has 4 areas. The one area that I feel is very important to me and to my campus is Educator Preparation and Development. The reason I feel it is very important is because it is my campus’ weakness currently. We have a great infrastructure, many technology applications for teachers and students, and a great budget in getting current technology to my district. The one area I feel we are really lacking in is good, effective professional development for technology. Educator Preparation and Development or “professional learning is an ongoing process that provides current educators with the knowledge and skills and classroom strategies to transform teaching and learning.” (Long-range Plan, 2006, p. 23)

As a state, we have moved from 19.9% Advanced Tech in 2007 to 26.8% Advance Tech in 2009. We are making progress in this area, as a state, but we are still only 0.7% Target Tech in 2009-2010. We are very far away from our goal in this area and almost half-way to the year 2020. As a campus, we have been Developing Tech for the past 3 years and have only moved up 1 point in our Key Area Total. As a campus, we are currently not helping our state’s summary in this area at all. My recommendation for improvement in this area at my campus is for my campus and district “provide coursework that addresses standards and their relationship with core subjects” by providing professional development opportunities to educators that address our technology TEKS and how to implement them into our regular subjects. (Lecture) Another recommendation I have for my campus and district is to provide more opportunities for distance learning (Lecture). Many teachers have a full plate and the thought of having to go to professional development class is overwhelming to them, but if we gave them the option to take online technology courses through the school year and summer, I feel that many teachers would take advantage of that opportunity.
